St. Patrick's Band set about the onerous task of replacing the Bandroom
A major fundraising effort was undertaken in 1986 with funds raised from:
- Galway City Council
- The American Ireland Fund
- Major businesses e.g. Digital and Thermo King
- Donations from Galway businesses and shops
- Small donations and fundraising events organised by the band
- small grant from the Government Sports Fund
The band were finally ready to undertake the daunting task of rebuilding.
Following a special farewell concert on the 22nd March '1987 the old Bandroom closed and was taken down.
Work then began with the aid of ANCO (FAS) and a number of builders hired by the committees plus voluntary helpers. The band players relocated to the Grammar School, College Road and St. Nicholas Parochial School, Woodquay for practices during the building work at Frenchville Lane.
