Band Reorganisation 1938

Brass Band for Galway.

Organisation Work Started.

A meeting for the purpose of re-organising on a sound basis the St. Patrick's Brass and Reed Band will be held in St. Patrick's Bandrooms, Forster-street, Galway, on Sunday next, October 16, at 12.45 p.m., to which ex-members and others who may be interested are cordially invited. After a very successful period extending well over fifty years this band was, unfortunately, some years ago forced, for reasons beyond its control to cease its activities, much, it is thought, to the regret of the music loving poeple of Galway and Salthill, whom it often delighted with its high-class musical programmes.

It has been said that a city of the size and importance of Galway with its high musical tradition should not be without the services of a first-class band such as it is proposed to organise. It is felt that if such a band could be established - and there is no reason it could not - it would at least prevent the necessity of having to import one, as was the case last season, at a cost which many think was in excess of its worth. Prompted as they are with this feeling, those behind the venture are confident that with the talent which it is known the City possesses, and with the help and co-operation of the people generally, a band such as is contemplated may not be beyond them.

The hope is therefore confidently expressed that all who can, especially ex-members, will make a special effort to be at the meeting and by their advice and suggestions lend a hand in providing a band that in time to come the City can be proud of.
